About the authors

Media Reframed Second Edition provides an accessible approach to the new VCE Media Study Design with a focus on emerging media trends and contemporary examples to engage the modern media student.

What’s new in this edition:

  • Explicitly aligned to the new VCE Study Design with each chapter written to the Key Knowledge to ensure every aspect of a unit is covered in depth.
  • A range of contemporary examples and case studies that will resonate with students including popular streaming shows, 21st century cinema, social media, gaming culture and fandom.
  • Supporting examples of contexts for each Unit 3 narrative case study helps students prepare for their practical and written assessments for that Outcome.
  • An accessible approach to the Unit 4 topic Agency and Control in Media with a close look at new developments such as Surveillance Capitalism and the challenges this creates in the modern world.
  • More VCAA exam-style questions and exam terminology for each unit, chapter summaries, review questions, and sample SACs with annotated model answers in the Interactive Textbook to give students all the assessment practice they need.
  • New tools for students to chart their progress including Learning Intentions aligned to the Key Knowledge of the Study Design at the start of each chapter section, and a Success Criteria checklist at the end of the chapter aligned to the Key Skills. Activities that satisfy each criterion identified in the checklist can be used for revision or preparation for assessments.
  • A new chapter on Study Specifications that defines key media concepts giving students a vital toolkit to refresh and consolidate their understanding throughout the course.
  • Additional support for teachers’ delivery of the new Study Design including ready-made assessment tasks, marking rubrics, media production design templates, and worksheets.

Features you loved (now improved):

  • The Media Production Hub – now with new VCAA Top Screen winning student work and examples across a range of media forms.
  • An accessible layout for all learners with images and diagrams and additional video and audio content in the Interactive Textbook.
  • The ideal balance of theory and practice with a range of activities broken into three types – written task, visual analysis and practical task.
