Mark White
Mark White is Head of Mathematics at Perth Modern School. He has spent the last 30 years teaching Mathematics in Western Australia in a wide range of schools and has been Head of Mathematics at Ocean Reef Senior High School and at Rossmoyne Senior High School, where he co-founded the Specialist Maths Honours program. Mark has been closely involved with the Mathematical Association of Western Australia (MAWA) working on the National Maths Summer School committee and the recently formed WA Maths Summer School. He is also on the Western Australia Junior Maths Olympiad Committee, which is affiliated with the University of Western Australia.
Timothy Birrell
Tim Birrell is Head of Mathematics at Penrhos College. He has been a teacher in Western Australia for over 30 years, and has also taught at Eastern Goldfields SHS, Como Secondary College, Rossmoyne SHS, Willetton SHS and Harrisdale SHS. He was Head of Mathematics at Willetton SHS, before returning to Rossmoyne as Head of Mathematics, where he co-founded the Specialist Maths Honours program. Tim has held various roles at the School Curriculum and Standards Authority, principally in examination development, and was the chief examiner for Mathematics Methods from 2017-2021. Tim is passionate about Mathematics education for all students and in particular ensuring girls are given every opportunity to study Mathematics at its highest level.
Michael Evans
Michael Evans has a PhD in Mathematics from Monash University and a Diploma of Education from La Trobe University. He currently holds the honorary position of Senior Consultant at the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute at the University of Melbourne. He was Head of Mathematics at Scotch College, Melbourne, and has also taught in public schools and in recent years has returned to classroom teaching. He has been very involved with curriculum development at both state and national levels. In 1999, Michael was awarded an honorary Doctor of Laws by Monash University for his contribution to mathematics education.
Neil Cracknell
Neil Cracknell has significant expertise in senior school mathematics. Having retired from his position at Scotch College, he went on to teach at an Independent College in Melbourne.
Josian Astruc
Josian Astruc is a highly experienced teacher of senior VCE Mathematics. Now retired, he has presented at both teacher and student seminars on Specialist Maths.
Kay Lipson
Kay Lipson has a PhD in Statistics Education, and Diploma of Education. Her experience includes over 30 years teaching mathematics and statistics at both secondary and tertiary level, as well as extensive periods as a VCE examiner. Kay is an experienced author of textbooks for the Years 11 and 12 Mathematics courses, specialising in the areas of Probability and Statistics.
Peter Jones
Peter Jones is a Professor Emeritus and formerly Head of the School of Mathematical Sciences at Swinburne University of Technology. He has been an active supporter of school mathematics over many years and helped pioneer the introduction of graphics calculators into Victorian schools. Peter is a highly experienced writer of mathematical content. His area of expertise is applied statistics.
